What Is the Bible?

Letting Scripture Loose on our Lives

Have you ever looked at your bible and thought wow this is kind of an intimidating book? Where do I start reading? How am I supposed to make sense of some of these crazy stories? Why do some things seem to contradict? And how does this ancient book impact my life in the past, present, and future? What is the Bible?

The goal of this class is not to pin down scripture into a nice, neat, little box. Rather we will attempt to let it loose on our lives, to be changed and transformed by its stories. The Word is living and active, moving, changing, and speaking. During this 8 week study we will be diving into this ancient narrative that transforms your narrative. In this class the aim is not to tame scripture or turn it into a funnel of information, but to wrestle and struggle with it together.

In the rabbinic tradition the Jewish teachers talked about scripture having multiple faces. During our 8 weeks of study we will approach scripture as a gem, with multiple ways to read and turn the gem in our hand. As we turn the gem of scripture we will all see different faces of the same gem. As we read scripture we will allow it to read us. The biblical world is meant to be opened and explored, together. It is a wonderful and adventurous world full of discovery and meaning, let’s explore together!

One of the special things about this class is it will not be led by one person, there will be multiple people from our church leading different weeks and you won’t want to miss out. These Wednesday night classes serve as an amazing way to connect with one another and engage in dialogue together.
